Rules and regulations
Lots for this cemetery may be purchased by contacting the Town of Sparta Town Clerk.
Purchasers of lots/spaces acquire the right and privilege of burial and erection of monuments and grave markers.
Ownership of the burial site shall descend to the owner's heirs; but any-one or more such heirs may convey to any other heir his or her interest in the cemetery lot. (Wisc.Stat: 157.10)
The Town of Sparta Cemetery Board shall hire an individual who shall prepare the site for burial. The funeral home may also make arrangements for such. For cremations, the town patrolman will normally prepare the site and close the site.
Monuments, stones or markers are required to be placed on a foundation.
Monuments, stones or markers shall be placed at the head of the burial site with names indicating the persons interred there with pertinent dates relating to the deceased.
No tree, shrubbery or perennials shall be placed at the lot or site. Shepherds hooks must be placed as close as possible to the left or right side of the marker. The basket must hang over the marker.
If any structure, display, or inscription placed in or on any lot is determined by the Town Board to be offensive or improper or injurious to the appearance of the surrounding lots or grounds, the Board shall have the right to enter upon such lot and remove the offensive or improper object or objects. The lot owner will be assessed for the cost of removal.
All lots in the Cemetery shall be used for no other purpose than as a burial place for dead human beings remains.
One burial site/space may be used as follows: one only or, one casket and one cremation, or two cremations.
Lots must be paid in full before a burial is made. Full purchase price must be paid before a Certificate of Burial Right is issued.
Any funeral provider or vault provider shall use the designated driveways only. Providers who must deliver to lots not immediately adjacent to paved roadways shall use appropriate cart for delivery, which shall not rut the areas used. If said provider uses an unacceptable portion of the cemetery or creates a disturbance in the soil, it shall pay a penalty of $50.00 per incident, plus cost of repairs for any damage resulting therefrom.
The Town of Sparta Town Board may, and it hereby expressly reserves the right, at any time, with or without notice to lot owners, to adopt new rules and regulations or to amend, alter and/or repeal any rule or regulation. The Town Board therefore, reserves the right, without notice, to make exceptions, suspensions, modifications or clarifications in any of the Rules and Regulations when, in its judgment, the same appear advisable, and such temporary exceptions, suspensions or modifications shall in no way be construed as affecting the general application of such.
The Cemetery Board may, at its own expense, without any liability, correct any error that may occur in the placing of a foundation or stone.
Perpetual care services are included within the purchase of a grave space.
Perpetual care services provided by the Town Board include grass mowing and trimming of the grounds and grave spaces, and road/fence maintenance.
The purchase and maintenance of headstones is the responsibility of the family of the deceased.
Perpetual care does not include repair or replacement of markers, monuments, and foundations.
The owner/family is required to keep the site in good order at his/her expense.
Fee for Burial Site: $400.00 (1) space
Fee for burial: Casket burial: $500.00 - Includes grave digger's fee and site finding fee.
Cremation burial: $250.00, both apply to summer burials.
An extra charge for winter burial: $100 for dates November 1 - March 31
Vaults are required for both Full and Cremation Burials.
At a Casket/Cremation site, if the cremation burial occurs first, the owner/family is responsible for the cost to prepare the site for the casket. The fee will be at the discretion of the Town Board.
The monument company will be charged a fee of $70.00 to locate a grave site for placement of a monument/marker.
